[Single Review] Lucid Safari release first single – “Lady” from forthcoming EP ‘Delirium’.

Lucid Safari is the new Reggae Coastal Rock project of Brisbane musician Daniel J. Lewis. Hosting a rotation of rising and accomplished musicians, the band translates Lewis’ sonic vision in the studio and on the live stage, featuring drums, bass, guitars, keys and vocals.

After only a short time on the scene, Lucid Safari received high praise for winning The Sound Garden’s “Battle of the Bands” in October of 2020. The band went on to perform the Main Stage at the Inaugural Wynnum Fringe Festival in November and have since played Brisbane’s most iconic venues including The Zoo and The Triffid and have played alongside renowned and respected artists such as Kate Miller Heidke, Ian Moss, Fat Picnic and Golden age of ballooning.

“Lady” available November 18th, 2021, on all your favourite streaming platforms is the first single release from a forthcoming debut EP Delirium (ETA early 2022).

Listening to “Lady” for me was all about 3 defined layers…

  1. Instantaneously what’s evident is the steady insistent Reggae backdrop. Rich and pure with its heavy bass sounds continuous throughout the track.
  2. The next layer, a moderately rapid tempo akin to that on a soft rock track. This layer used to supply a smidgen of pace over the above-mentioned Reggae influence before reaching a sedate lull at 2:18 where its stripped back and allows the vocals to be the focus before kicking back in at 3:05.
  3. The final layer, the vocal, here we see Lewis employ a silky and persuasive pop like tonality in approach to the lament and yearning for his “Lady”. Each word sung clear and veraciously. His modulated voice is controlled and very easy to listen too.

As mentioned, Lucid Safari is a band who have a rotation of accomplished members. On “Lady” the credit for musicianship goes to Daniel Lewis (Vocals/Guitar), Shane Kumar (Bass Guitar), Damon Joel (DJ) (Drums) and Nathan Cornacchia (Organ/Piano/Synth) noting that Cornacchia also produced and engineered “Lady”.

“Lady” is a good strong start for the Lucid Safari project – full of fusions of hypnotic grooves and neat curves which evoked visions of laying back in the Jamaican sunset pondering the questions and curiosities of unrequited love in a playful manner. There’s a pile of instrumental swagger within this track to immerse yourself and you’ll feel it from the first note to the last! As the singer/songwriter Lewis brings it all together with familiar believable uncomplicated lyrical contexts and smooth flowing vocals.

Lady – Lucid Safari

Dreaming of the day that you would be my lady
Dreaming of the day that you would be mine
And I know just what you’re thinking
That I’m just a little wasted
Won’t you be my lady, I’ll change your mind?

Cause I want you, tell me that you want me too
And I’m waiting so won’t you be my lady?

I know it’s been a long time
But you’re never too far from my mind
Can I take you home?
And I know just what you’re thinking
That I’m just a little wasted
Won’t you be my lady, I’ll change your mind?

Cause I want you, tell me that you want me too
And I’m waiting so won’t you be my lady?

Cause I want you, tell me that you want me too
And I’m waiting so won’t you be my lady?

Lady” has already been added to rotation on the major US independent radio station KXFM Laguna Beach prior to the songs official release date. A true sign of things to come.
