HOW WOULD YOU EXPLAIN YOUR SOUND? Mermaid Avenue sits somewhere between the country, alt-country, county rock and indie rock genres. The music is built around the song writing skills of Peter Clarke which is then ‘Avenued’ by the rest of the band.
WHAT’S THE MOST INTERESTING EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD WHILE PERFORMING? We played on the bill for ‘Ewingar Rising’, a bushfire benefit festival headed by Tex Perkins in a small northern NSW community in 2019. The bands played on a stage in the middle of a starkly deforested bushfire zone. Whilst the bushfires had exhausted the local fuel, the bands and crowd were subject to a lot of residual smoke and a very warm environment. Even worse, the beer started to run out way too early! The festival organisers have invited all the bands back this year to play again as a kind of ‘thank-you’, it will be held in September 2021.
WHERE TO IN THE FUTURE? The main aim for 2021 is to get the new album released, as well as the singles from the album. We have an absolute truckload of songs written that we need to record (thank you isolation), so we will probably move on to starting album #3 later this year. We are also keen to start gigging the new material and revamped band.
WHERE CAN WE HEAR YOUR MUSIC (links)? Our debut album is available on all digital platforms. The first new single ‘Turn the Page’ drops later in March with others to follow thereafter. We will provide you with those details once they are in place.
