HOW WOULD YOU EXPLAIN YOUR SOUND?
Tactile and intimate, grounded in folk – but with a twist. Theatrical and emotive vocals and harmonies built on layers of acoustic guitar, with an amplified edge.
WHAT’S THE MOST INTERESTING EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD WHILE PERFORMING?
I consider myself a creative all-rounder, so while I love to perform one of my favourite things to do is make music videos. Some of the biggest highlights of my career have happened while doing that – like overseeing an impromptu sword fighting lesson during the filming of the video for my song Into the Fray, or the moment where someone recognised me from that video outside Smiths Alternative in Canberra (I felt like I’d conquered the internet that day).
Earlier this year I went out to some of the areas affected by last summer’s bushfires gathering footage for the video for my newest release, Black Summer – that video will be out next month. That was a really emotional experience, but I feel very strongly about the need to keep talking about the bushfires – and the pandemic has really drowned out that discussion.
But that hasn’t really answered your question! Maybe one of the most fun and interesting experiences was the Narooma busking championships last year. Four different busking spots throughout the day, spread out over the town – picture me walking up a huge hill carrying my guitar in one hand and dragging a trolley with the other, with my battery powered amp and the rest of my gear piled on. But it’s a gorgeous little town and so many people came out to support the event. I ended up coming third, so that was a nice surprise at the end of a very long day as well.
WHERE TO IN THE FUTURE?
Black Summer is the third single of my upcoming sophomore EP, which should be out in
January. I am also going to be working with JMC Academy to produce another song and music video, after winning their sponsored prize during Logan Live Music Month this year – which is an opportunity I am massively grateful for and very excited about!
