Building on the success of ‘Astronomy’, Katanak wrote and produced the high energy ‘Take Us Back’ and accompanying film clip as a tribute to the freedom of childhood.
Taking his influence from The 1975, Circa Waves & The Wombats, Katanak produced this synth pop / indie rock tune that easily crosses genres and will worm it’s way into your brain.
“Take us back to when we were kids,We didn’t know how good we had it.”
‘Take Us Back’ was recorded in Katanak’s home studio where he played, produced and recorded all the instruments including drums, which were tracked separately with Hugh Middleton (Out With The In) in his studio space.
A mixing session with Hugh Middleton and mastering by Simon Francis has created an alt pop tune which will get you up off the couch and dancing in the living room.
Fresh indie tunes with catchy pop hooks are Katanak’s signature style and 2020 has been a big year for the solo artist, following on from supporting Pete Murray on his “Summer Sessions tour 2019”.
In early 2019 he collaborated on his single ‘Astronomy’ with Keir Nuttall, then was thrilled to have a song chosen for The QUBE Effect, an initiative of Brisbane City Council to provide Brisbane’s best young musicians with professional development and mentoring opportunities.
“It is a super catchy song and the music video is very creative and fun to watch. This guy is a real up and comer with an incredible talent. We are keeping an eye on him and expect big things in the near future.” (‘Astronomy’ Wade, Never Enough Music).
The clip for ‘Take Us Back’ was produced as part of The QUBE Effect in conjunction with BEMAC and Torn Parachute with the team of Queenie Pelesa, Karl Bouro & Aaron Iselin producing.
Dylan Cattanach of Katanak said it was a thrill to be selected as one of the artists for The QUBE Effect 2020 by the expert panel including Lachlan ‘Magoo’ Goold and Tyler McLoughlan from The Sound Pound.
“It has provided an amazing opportunity and I learnt so much working with Karl Bouro and Aaron Iselin from Torn Parachute to turn my vision for ‘Take Us Back’ into reality,” Dylan said. “This process of having the video clip released first with the song following later, is the reversal of how music is usually released but it’s working really well because people are finding my music via the clip and then heading over to their preferred music platform.”
‘Take Us Back’ is about having fun with my mates when we were kids and the film clip has captured the great energy of those carefree times.
Underscored by a boppin’ beat that’ll have you tapping your feet, Take Us Back is a feel-good ditty that will help you dance your worries away, leaving you feeling like it’s the weekend with every play. It’s an ironic feat for a track that deals with the casualties of growing up and juggling responsibilities. (Music Is My Muse – MIMM)
