HOW WOULD YOU EXPLAIN YOUR SOUND? Melding the earthiness of folk, dexterity of jazz and the craft of classical, Chaika’s vast influences create superb genre-blending music that transcends labels.
WHAT’S THE MOST INTERESTING EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD WHILE PERFORMING? Festivals always bring a really interesting cross-section of people into the audience and place. I think one very memorable and out of this world kind of experience was playing a 2am set at Jungle Love Festival in the middle of a rainforest, after trekking through mud slopes to get to the stage because of wild weather and then having a huge amount of people just completely blissing out on our music for a good couple of hours.
WHERE TO IN THE FUTURE? We hope that having been nominated for an ARIA, the industry might take a little more notice of our unusual sound. We have Australian tours in April and March which include festivals such as the National Folk Festival, River Folk Festival, Yackandandah Folk Festival as well as Melbourne Recital Centre and MONA in Tasmania. We have our sights set on a Europe/Scandanavian tour hopefully for 2020 as well.
