JNR (aka Paul Seils JNR) is a Brisbane singer-songwriter and performer with a penchant for authentic storytelling through his simplistic lyrics and real-life influences of growing up in outback Australia. His style can be described as Southern Country Rock crossing into Americana and reflects regular visits to Nashville, Tennesee, USA.
‘Down Low’ is JNR’s first official original release, co-written with Tamworth Country Music Festival 2014’s Star Maker Winner Jared Porter and Nolan Wynne.
Through ‘Down Low’ we take a journey from the high stresses of influential and successful fast-paced ideology of life to a place of simplicity, humility and purity.
In JNR’s words:
“We often think, through marketing and social programming, that the ‘high life’ is the penthouse, champagne, fast-paced lifestyle. At the end of the day, I’ve learnt with age that I just want to get away to the middle of nowhere with close friends – that’s a fulfilling life for me.”
JNR’s Baritone vocals have beautiful rich timbre and Country music fans will enjoy the combination of these and traditional country music ‘modus operandi’ complete with some stellar guitar moments. ‘Down Low’ is a more sedate version of true country rock but there’s still enough value to get dancing with some ‘country swagger’ and to engage in singing along with the catchy chorus.
‘Down Low’ comes to fruition as a collaborative effort across Brisbane, Australia and Nashville, TN. The instrumentation was recorded by award-winning Australian American Music Producer Michael Flanders (Mitzi Dawn, Siobhan Magnus, Garrison Starr, Nikki Webster) at his Lake View Studio in Nashville, with vocals recorded at Brisbane’s Alchemix Studios by Addison Joy (Salty Lix, Danny Widdicombe & Trichotomy, Monsoon Monsoon). The track was mixed by Joy and mastered and produced by Flanders.
Featuring on the track are Michael Flanders on electric guitar/slide guitar/steel guitar, Dave Francis on acoustic guitar, Caleb Flanders on bass, Steve Brewster on drums (drummer for Dierks Bentley), with backing vocals by Blake Padilla and Angela Toohey (credits include starring as Liza Minnelli in “Boy From Oz” opposite Hugh Jackman, Chrissy Amphlett and Todd McKenney). In Flanders’ studio, the acoustic guitar was recorded with the same microphone that Faith Hill used to sing her acclaimed hit ‘Breathe’.
Not content to just deliver a classy track with ‘Down Low’ JNR is giving us double the pleasure by releasing ‘Down Low’ the Official Music Video in unison with the single.
Shot at five locations across Brisbane and the Scenic Rim, including Brisbane’s Johnny Ringo’s and Mount Tamborine’s Bearded Dragon Hotel, the music video for ‘Down Low’ portrays the laid-back and unreservedly unassuming lifestyle that JNR describes in the song. Produced by Mick Borkowski (Synapse Creative – Videographer/Editor), the video features JNR’s ideal life of fulfilment – playing music, relaxing with friends, and driving his truck to his country home to appreciate the joy that life offers.
This release is being supported by BEMAC (Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre), as JNR was selected as the successful artist for BEMAC’s EMERGE: Record and Release project for Logan.
Since stepping out into the Country music scene, JNR has performed alongside local acts such as Vic Kena, and in venues such as Brisbane’s Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall and Tamworth’s Town Hall among other country bars, pubs, rodeos and RSL’s – including Logan’s Mayes Cottage and Logan Village Hotel as a featured artist with Logan Live Music Month in 2019.
JNR will be launching ‘Down Low’ on Sunday 10 November 2019 at The Outpost Bar in Brisbane – this special event will include an exclusive first viewing of the music video (ahead of the official online release on Thursday 14 November), and will also feature performances by Megan Cooper, Cameron Milford and special guests.
