HOW WOULD YOU EXPLAIN YOUR SOUND?

We have been described as the Dixie Chicks meets Bruce Springsteen however our sound can be hard to pin down. Inspired by the folk scenes of sixties Greenwich Village and Laurel Canyon, we believe our strength is the intimacy and passion of our three vocals.  Adding guitar, fiddle and accordion creates a sound that many fans believe is its own unique genre; a melting pot of the diverse musical influences of the three members – Penny is a classically trained singer who had been performing very traditional English folk, Dan had been performing high-energy, explosive rock songs and Cathy had traversed the middle ground playing some folk, some Irish, some country and some rock.   Dan’s unique outlook and inimitable song writing style is in the tradition of Steve Earle, Jason Isbell and Bruce Springsteen.

WHAT’S THE MOST INTERESTING EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD WHILE PERFORMING?

Last year at Maleny Festival we had a young couple in the audience get so overcome by one of our songs that they actually got engaged during our set which was very exciting.  The other fun thing we have done recently was late last year, Mick Thomas from Weddings Parties Anything had announced a local tour and was down a band member.  At the last minute, we were called in to help out.  Penny sang some duets with him, Cathy played fiddle for the whole show and Dan filled in with some electric guitar.

WHERE TO IN THE FUTURE?

The last two years have seen us performing around the country, predominantly at festivals spanning from southern NSW to far North Queensland, as well as many house concerts, folk clubs and music venues. Our debut album ‘A Better Way To Do Things’ was released in February 2019 and Tin Star will be busy getting out there to promote it and hopefully gain some support from radio along the way.
