Rockin’ 4 The Homeless 2019

Who We Are

Rockin’ 4 The Homeless is an annual event organised by volunteers to support the Homeless in our community. The event has a headliner act and is supported by 20 other local bands.

The event is always fully funded prior to the day and all monies raised for the event go directly and wholly to the cause.

Our cause is The Breakfast Club Redcliffe –

We would very much welcome and appreciate your kind contribution towards this fast growing event, so that we, in turn, are able to help The Breakfast Club. The Breakfast Club provides free meals for the homeless and those in need on the Redcliffe peninsula.

The Breakfast Club is run solely by an amazing team of volunteers, they have no paid staff. They use the funds raised, through fundraising events, such as “Rockin’ 4 The Homeless” and donations, to buy food for meals and to pay rent for the hall and their storage facility.

The Breakfast Club has been running successfully for almost 13 years and currently serve around 1,500 meals a month. Guests can enjoy full cooked breakfast and beverages – all for free. Some of  guests are homeless, others are on low or fixed incomes and struggling to make their money stretch. But Breakfast Club offers much more than food. For many guests, the most important thing is the chance to mix with other people in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Ages of people attending range from babies to people in their 80’s. The ability to form friendships and support networks in an accessible and informal setting enables development of social connections and supports. Participants often meet away from Breakfast Club and assist each other with chores, transport etc. Some have offered short-term accommodation to others in housing need.

Several guests have become volunteers with Breakfast Club or other activities or groups within the local community. It also a place where people can get information and help with a range of issues from experienced and trained volunteers.

Issues raised by guests include: Food, social connection, homelessness, housing, employment, youth, education, legal, mental health, sexual assault, domestic violence, family/parenting, literacy support, prison support, financial, ER, furniture/household goods, volunteering, medical, home help (seniors), transport, benefits, child protection. Regular referrals are made to agencies, services and groups.

Creating these opportunities for individuals and groups to develop and practice love, kindness and generosity is an important element of the Breakfast Club ethos.  The involvement of local businesses and groups as donors and community members as volunteers creates greater understanding in the broader community of the issues facing guests.
