Fremantle roots band the John Butler Trio scored their first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart when third album Sunrise Over Sea spent three weeks in the top spot in 2004. The follow-up to Three (#24 Feb. ’02) spent its first two weeks in the chart at #1. After dropping as low as #16, the album returned to #1 in its nineteenth week in the Top 50. In total, Sunrise Over Sea spent 27 weeks in the Top Ten and 57 weeks in the Top 50.
Three singles from Sunrise Over Sea hit the ARIA top 50: ‘Zebra’ (#22 Feb. ’04), ‘What You Want’ (#29 Aug. ’04) and ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ (#47 Jan. ’05). The album was accredited 5x Platinum and was #5 on the 2004 ARIA End Of Year Albums Chart.
The John Butler Trio have hit #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with three more releases, first with Grand National (#1 Apr. ’07), then with April Uprising (#1 Apr. ’10), and most recently, they topped the chart for one week in October 2018 with Home.
